TUC DEMANDS FIVE MONTHS ARREARS ON PAYMENT OF MINIMUM WAGE

Written by on October 22, 2019

Trade Union Congress is asking the Federal Government to pay five months arrears of the new minimum wage dating back to April 18, 2019.

In a statement by the acting Chairman of the union, Anchaver Simon, and the Secretary, Alade Lawal, the workers’ representatives also urged the government to keep to its promise of carrying out a general review of wages of public servants in the country.

You may recall that the new minimum wage was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in April.

But since then, there have been series of negotiation between the federal government and organized labour and both parties just reached an agreement on the new wage last Friday.

Meanwhile, the Labour union has threatened to come down hard on all employers of labour that pay below the new wage structure.
