Senate raises panel for security reforms

National Assembly is seeking a Security Sector Reform that will not only transform the Security Sector but also assign roles and responsibilities that is consistent with principles of democracy and good governance.

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, mentioned this while inaugurating the Senate’s  Adhoc Committee on “Nigerian Security Challenges: Urgent Need to Restructure, Review and Reorganise the Current Security Architecture”.

Lawan noted that certain fundamental principles like respect for the rule of law, transparency, accountability, and public trust, must be adhered to in order to ensure that the provision of security is underpinned by democratic values.

He urged security agencies to corporate with the seventeen-member committee, headed by Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, to discharge its duties effectively
