It was a rowdy morning at the Nigeria Correctional Service in Eket today as inmates protested the alleged killing of their colleague.
Reports say, the protest was triggered after a prison staff allegedly beat an inmate to death last evening.
The irate inmates numbering over one hundred insisted that the deputy comptroller in charge of Nigeria Correctional Service Eket must be changed destroying properties worth millions of naira in the process.
In the midst of the confusion, a large number of prisoners tried to escape from custody but were stoutly prevented by warders who fired gunshots sporadically.
When Comfort FM news contacted Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service for their reaction, an official of the Command said gathering information was still being gathered on the matter.
