Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the distribution of an additional two hundred and twenty operational vehicles, including water cannons, armoured personnel carriers, helmets, bulletproof vests, and tear gas canisters to the three states where elections will hold this weekend.

Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who spoke in Abuja, said the distribution of these vehicles will ensure the smooth conduct of the forthcoming off-cycle gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States scheduled for November 11, 2023.

He also noted that, in preparation for the upcoming elections, the IGP had organised training sessions for police officers involved in election security management and sought approval from the federal government for their allowances and other necessary support to boost their morale during operations.
The IGP urged all stakeholders in the three states to embrace peace, uphold the sanctity of the rule of law, and be law-abiding before, during, and after the elections, as the police and other security agencies have been placed on alert to prevent any unruly acts that could disrupt the elections in any of the states.
