INSPECTION

Akwa Ibom state House Committee on Appropriation and Finance has commended the ongoing construction work at the Ibom International Airport.

The Committee, accompanied by the Speaker, Barrister Onofiok Luke, scored the current administration high on the Airport yesterday when they took an inspection tour on the Injection sub-station, the Commercial building and the Second runway of the airport.

Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties, Akan Okon, who took the lawmakers round the facilities, explained that the Injection Sub-station which was first awarded in 2005 at 900 million naira, was rewarded in 2007 at 4 billion naira due to a wrong structure from the beginning.

Managing Director of the Ibom International Airport, Johanna Swiegers, who said the ongoing power sub-station project is almost completed, noted that the next stage is the linking of the Sub-station to public power supply.

The Management of the Airport however noted that the facility needs a secondary power source and pleaded for the release of more funds to pay-off outstanding debt and regular training for airport personnel.

Speaker of the House, Barrister Onofiok Luke, assured of the necessary commitment of the legislature to the developmental projects of the current administration, calling on the Airport management to train and transfer technology knowledge to youths of the state.

Chairman of the Committee, Usoro Akpanusoh, noted that the visit is to access the level of completion of government projects captured in the state budget as it considers the 2018 budget before it .
