Insecurity: Southern Governors ban open grazing, ask Buhari to address nation

Written by on May 12, 2021

Southern Governors have banned open grazing of cattle across all seventeen states in the region as they asked the President to address Nigerians on the state of the nation.

This was the outcome of a meeting that lasted for almost two hours at the Delta Government House in Asaba.

The governors bared their minds through a communiqué read by chairman of the Forum and Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akerdeolu, calling on that the Federal Government to support willing States to develop alternative and modern livestock management systems.

They noted development and population growth had put pressure on available land and increased the prospects of conflict between migrating herders and local populations in the South.

The Governors also called for the restructuring of the country to address increasing agitations in different parts of the nation, while restating their commitment to the unity of the country.
