If all things go as planned, each of the thirty one Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom will host Greenhouses to be established by the State Government.

Governor Udom Emmanuel, flanked by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Women Affairs, Dr. Glory Edet, announced this during an unscheduled inspection of the State Government’s Model Greenhouse, near the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.

According to the Governor, it was necessary to replicate the technology in all the Local Government Areas, or at least all the federal constituencies, to make enough food available for the people.

Governor Emmanuel maintained that the state is endowed with fertile soil, favourable weather and adequate resources that enhance all season agriculture and urged the people to key into the all season farming campaign in the state.

He also allayed the fears of the citizens following the recent hike in the price of rice due to the closure of Nigerian borders by the federal government, assuring that rice produced in the state would be made available for the people at a pocket friendly price during the festive season.

In a related development, Governor Udom Emmanuel has received kudos for his visionary leadership and passion for agricultural development which has ensured food sufficiency in the state.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Women Affairs, Dr. Glory Edet, who gave the applause yesterday, noted that with Governor Emmanuel’s support, the Greenhouse project has witnessed remarkable breakthrough, as tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers are ready for harvest.

Dr. Edet explained that out of the ten Greenhouses at the Model Greenhouse, near the Victor Attah International Airport, seven have been cultivated, while the remaining three will be done later.
