Written by on August 26, 2020

Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye has confirmed that Chloroquine can kill the COVID-19 virus at the early stage.

Professor Adeyeye also said Remdesivir, produced by Gilead Sciences Incorporated has equally been shown to kill the virus at late stages.

Speaking at a virtual news conference in Abuja, the NAFDAC DG however said the cost for treating people with chloroquine was cheaper than with Remdesivir.

Professor Adeyeye advocated for chloroquine usage in Nigeria,  noting that countries in West Africa like Ghana, Togo, and Senegal have also embraced the clinical use of the drug for Covid-19 treatment.
