Akwa United fans have expressed sadness over the unexpected elimination of the Promise Keepers from the CAF Confederation Cup competition.

The state government had given Akwa United fans free access to watch the game against Al Hilal of Sudan yesterday and cheer the team to victory.

Playing before a capacity home crowd at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, the Promise Keepers won the match by Three to One, but failed to advance to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup on account of the away-goals rule.

Speaking with Comfort FM, some fans of the Promise Keepers could not hide their disappointment, as they expected the team to join Enyimba FC of Aba for the group stages.

They called on the management of the Akwa Ibom state football team to put their house in order and prepare the players for better performance in national and Continental games.
