House Committee on Appropriation and Finance led by Usoro Akpanusoh today visited the new Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge in Lagos currently under construction.

The lawmakers, accompanied by the House Leader, Sir Udo Kierian Akpan, were taken round the building, sitting on over three thousand square meters by the Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties, Akan Okon.

Akan Okon told the lawmakers that project, located at 32B Cooper Road Ikoyi, which commenced in June last year would be completed in March 2018, with adequate funding.

According to the Commissioner, the state Government would partner the private sector to develop the old Governor’s Lodge in Victoria Island and make it marketable for the state.

Chairman of the Committee, Usoro Akpanusoh, expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the property, which received a one point two billion naira allocation in 2017 budget.


Speaker of the House, Barister Onofiok Luke has called on the Commissioner of Housing and Special Duties to put government property lying in waste in Lagos and Abuja into proper use for revenue generation into the state coffers.

He has also directed the Commissioner to fix a meeting with the Contractor handling the New Akwa Ibom State Government Lodge and the House before the end of this month for detailed briefing on the progress of work being made.

Barister Luke who was represented by House Leader Udo Kierian Akpan, was speaking today, in Lagos when the House Committee on Appropriation went on an inspection visit to the project site.

Comfort FM House of Assembly Correspondent, Ruth Amadin, reports that the new State Governor’s Lodge in Lagos houses two buildings.

It also houses an office of the Governor, a sitting room and banquet room, two security rooms, four bedrooms, two living rooms, five toilets, two balcony, two elevators, one swimming pool, a basement, staff offices and a laundry room amongst others.
