Impressed by his outstanding performance at the international level, President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated the incumbent President of African Development Bank, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, for re-election.
Adesina, who confirmed this in Lagos after receiving an Award for outstanding performance, thanked President Buhari for reposing trust in him.
The AfDB president, who in 2015 became the first-ever Nigerian to be elected President of the bank since its establishment in 1964, said Nigeria had invested so much in him, encouraging him to put his best foot forward in the course of service.
He said during his leadership, sixteen million people had been connected to electricity, seventy million provided with improved agricultural technologies to achieve food security, nine million gained access to finance from private sector companies, while thirty-one million others had access to water and sanitation.
Akinwunmi, who attributed the bank’s last year rating as the fourth most transparent institution globally to God’s grace and the dedication of the staff and Board of Directors, observed that despite all achievements, there was still much left to do.
