Why CAF Postponed Super Eagles’ Double-header AFCON Qualifier With Guinea Bissau

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau billed to hold in September has been postponed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

 

The teams will now use the September international window to engage in friendlies ahead of the mundial as the matches will now in March 2023 after the World Cup.

The Super Eagles lead Group A of the 2023 AFCON with six points from two matches.

Sierra Leone and Sao Tome are the other teams in their qualifying group.

Recall that the continent’s soccer governing body had also postponed the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to January 2024.

CAF took the decision due to the unfavourable weather conditions during the summer in Cote d’Ivoire.
