We can’t go back to class on empty stomach

Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is insisting that its members will not return to the classroom on empty stomachs.
The Union wants its payment system, the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, adopted, as an alternative to the Federal Government’s Integrated Personal Payroll Information System, IPPIS.
Coordinator, ASUU Calabar Zone, Dr Aniekan Brown, who stated this at a press conference in Calabar, said the Union has rejected the IPPIS, since 2013.
Brown recalled that on March 23, ASUU declared an industrial action against the government for not adhering to their demands.
He clarified that the Union considers the IPPIS, which is a payment system, as disagreeable with the mode of operation of the university system, given the peculiarities of universities.
Brown said the mode of employment, retirement age, sabbatical leave; adjunct, part-time and contract engagements, among others, are concepts unique to the university, and alien to IPPIS.
