Nigerian Community in South Africa has urged its members to adopt safety measures ahead of a planned protest against foreigners by South Africans.

President of Nigerian Union, South Africa, Adetola Olubajo, told newsmen that criminal elements could take advantage of the protest to cause trouble.

Olubajo asked Nigerians to stay away from areas of the planned protests while imploring the organizers of the protest to do it within the ambit of the law and be vigilant of criminal elements that could take advantage of the march to loot and destroy property and shops of foreigners.

He noted that the union had zero tolerance for crime because it affects everybody in the society, adding that those engaging in drug peddling, child prostitution, attacking foreign nationals and looting their property are all perpetrating crime.

The president urged the police to be proactive adding that prompt response would assist the people, and appealed to the host government at the highest level to swiftly intervene to avoid further loss of lives and property.
