Shakeup in NNPC; Baru out, Kyari in

There has been a major shakeup in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, with the removal of Dr. Maikanti Baru as the Group Managing Director and appointment of Mele Kyari as his successor.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who gave nod to the change, also confirmed the appointment of seven Chief Operating Officers.

They include Roland Ewubare from South-South in charge of Upstream; Engineer Mustapha Yakubu from North Central for Refining and Petrochemicals and Engineer Yusuf Usman from North East in charge of Gas and Power.

The others are Lawrencia Ndupu from South East in charge of Ventures; Engineer Adeyemi Adetunji from South West overseeing Downstream; Farouk Garba from North West handling Corporate Services and Umar Ajiya from North West as Chief Financial Officer.

A statement by the NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs, Ndu Ughamadu, explained that the appointments will take effect from 8th July, 2019.

President Buhari has directed the new NNPC Chief and the newly appointed Chief Operating Officers to work with the current occupiers of the various offices till 7th July, 2019 in order to achieve smooth transition on 8th July 2019 when their appointments would take effect.
