Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha are to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari this week to discuss the ways to end the minimum wage deadlock.

Reports say government’s negotiating team and the Joint Public Sector Unions are considering a compromise deal of twenty five per cent increases for workers on grade levels two to seven and ten per cent for those between eight and seventeen.

Meanwhile, the federal government’s committee on the Consequential Adjustment for the minimum wage had met on several occasions with the Joint Public Sector Unions without agreeing on the template to be applied for the payment of the new wage increase across board.

The federal government’s negotiating team had first proposed a consequential adjustment of nine point five per cent for workers on grade level seven to fourteen and four point five per cent increase for those on fifteen to seventeen grade level but Labour rejected the proposal.
