PRESIDENT BUHARI ARRIVES SOCHI FOR RUSSIA-AFRICA SUMMIT

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday evening arrived Sochi, Russia, ahead of the Russia-Africa Economic Forum fixed for  October 23 to October 25.

Reports say the presidential aircraft conveying the president and some members of his entourage landed at Sochi International Airport at about 11.25 p.m. Local Time with the temperature out at 22 degrees centigrade.

President Buhari was received at the airport by Mayor of Sochi, Anatoly Pakhomov, and other Russian government officials.

While in Russia, President Buhari will participate actively in the Russia – Africa Summit, which would focus on exploring and expanding opportunities in security, trade and investment, science and technology, and gas production.

During the summit, the president will also meet with President Vladimir Putin of Russia to further strengthen relations between Nigeria and Russia.

The two leaders would hold bilateral talks on security, trade and investment, and building partnership that would enhance Nigeria’s huge gas potential following Russia’s remarkable success in gas exportation.

The  Joy of turning sixty three yesterday turned sour for  former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as his long motorcade suffered attack by armed thugs.

Reports say the thugs, who brandished machetes, swords and other local weapons, waylaid the convoy while passing through Madobi Road flyover.

 Kwankwaso had gone to inaugurate Nafisatu College of Nursing and Midwifery, a private college he established in his hometown, Kwankwaso village to commemorate his 63rd birthday.

But as members of the group were returning back to Kano, witnesses said, they were attacked by unknown thugs at the bridge.

A statement by Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, spokesman for the PDP governorship candidate in the state, said  fifteen people were critically injured, while ten vehicles  were destroyed.
