President Buhari approves ten billion naira for Akanu Ibiam Airport upgrade

President Muhammadu Buhari today played host to South-East governors and leaders from the zone at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, during which they made a case for special fund for the rehabilitation of the Akanu Ibiam Airport in Enugu State.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum and Ebonyi Governor, Dave Umahi, also sought for declaration of state of emergency on roads and erosion in the South East.

Umahi told President Buhari that the deplorable roads in the South East have made lives miserable, while the closure of the Enugu airport has grounded activities in the region and caused great hardship on the people.

The meeting which later went into a closed-door session had in attendance, Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu; Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia; Emeka Ihedioha of Imo; Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senate Minority Leader representing South East Caucus in National Assembly and Senator Sam Egwu.

Others were former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim; former Governors Martin Elechi, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Sullivan Chime, Achike Udenwa, Ikedi Ohakim and President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Nnia Nwodo.

Among those at the meeting included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, and Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed.
