Presidency warns against inciting comments on death of daughter of Afenifere leader

Written by on July 16, 2019

Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu is appealing to the political class to stop playing politics with the killing of Funke Olakunrin in Ondo state.

Shehu, who made the appeal yesterday in a statement, lamented that in times of tragedy, it was disrespectful to the departed and her family to begin to criticize President Buhari’s administration.

Although the statement did not identify those who have been exploiting the tragedy, some critical remarks have been credited to former president Olusegun Obasanjo in a recent letter which was published and connote sympathy for the People’s Democratic Party.

The president’s SSA however called for national unity stressing that leaders across the country must consider their language and its potential consequences.
