NFF rules out foreign-based players for junior national teams

Written by on January 3, 2020

It is now official that no foreign-based player would join Nigeria’s junior national team to fortify and restore confidence in the domestic league.

General Secretary of Nigeria Football Federation, Sanusi Mohammed, who announced this in Abuja, said junior national team coaches under the employment of the football house have been barred from such practice.

Sanusi blamed the failure of the junior national teams in 2019 on less attention paid on the country’s domestic competitions, and activities of club agents, who are more interested in marketing than developing the players.

He said the Federation would focus more on the league by ensuring strict compliance with the rules and regulations governing football as well as developing sound domestic league
