NDDC indebtedness blamed on corruption

Written by on December 30, 2019

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has attributed the high-level of indebtedness of the Niger Delta Development Commission to massive looting of the agency under previous administrations.

Senator Akpabio, in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, regretted that persons saddled with the responsibility of managing NDDC over the years had used it as a “cash cow” in the past.

He noted that the commission, which was created to meet the critical amenities’ needs of the Niger Delta people, had engaged in expensive programmes that had no real bearing on their lives.

According to him, the NDDC was supposed to have intervened in roads like the Sapele/Warri Road, Benin Road, the collapsed bridge in Elebele, and provision of portable drinking water for the people of the region
