MIGHTY GEORGE

George Iniabasi Essien is an award-winning broadcaster and sports journalist, with a decade and half experience in the media.

Nicknamed “Mighty George’, he is the reigning ‘Radio Presenter of The Year’ (Nigeria Broadcasting Awards 2023) – the highest awards for Nigerian broadcasters. He is also a recipient of the Nigeria Sports Award for ‘Sports Journalist of the Year’ (2018); United Nations Award for ‘Best Sports Presenter in Nigeria’ (2019); South-South Sports Journalist of the Year (2022); Akwa Ibom Sports Presenter of The Year (2020), among a number of other awards.

Owner of the popular moniker ‘What A Rush’, Mighty George has headed Sports and Presentation desks at Brila FM, Nigeria’s only sports radio station, where he spent 7 years; Radio Continental, Lagos; and now Comfort 95.1 FM, Uyo, where he currently serves as Head of Programs and Senior International Correspondent.

George is also a well-travelled Nigerian sports journalist, a member of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), Sports Writers Association of Nigerian (SWAN), an alumnus of University of Calabar, London School of Journalism, and Barcelona Sports Institute.
