Written by on January 3, 2020

Turkey’s parliament has passed a bill that will allow the government to deploy troops to Libya to intervene in the civil war.

Turkish lawmakers approved the bill, with three hundred and twenty five in favour to one hundred and eighty four against.

Turkey is allied with Libya’s UN-backed government, which is based in the capital, Tripoli.

Reacting to the development, U.S President, Donald Trump, in a phone call with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, warned against foreign interference in Libya.

Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis; Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu and Cypriot President, Nicos Anastasiades, have also warned that the deployment of troops to Libya marked a dangerous threat to regional stability
