Anxiety over the governorship tussle in Kano and Sokoto states were today laid to rest at the Supreme Court.

Abdullahi Ganduje is to continue as Governor of Kano state, as a seven-man panel of Justices of the apex court, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, upheld his victory and dismissed an appeal filed by the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Abba Yusuf.

Delivering the judgement, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, said the court saw no reason to dislodge the judgment’s of the two lower courts.

The situation was not different for Governor of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, whose election was also affirmed by the court.

The Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by the All Progressives Congress candidate in the state, Ahmed Sokoto and held that the appellant failed to offer any credible evidence to prove his petition against the outcome of the governorship election.

Justice Musa Abba-Ajji who delivered the lead judgement, noted that whereas the appellant produced twelve witnesses before the tribunal, eleven made their statements in Hausa language while the English version was tendered in evidence.

Abba-Ajji explained that the appellant failed to tender the original version of the statements tendered in evidence and also failed to produce the translator to confirm the authenticity or otherwise of the eleven statements.
