INEC fixes Ekiti East by-election for March 20

Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed the Ekiti East Constituency 1 by-election for March 20.
Vacancy in the constituency arose following the death of the lawmaker representing the constituency, Adegbuyi Oluwajuwa Amos.

INEC said in line with the Electoral Act, any party that presents the name of a candidate who does not meet the qualifications stipulated in the Constitution and the Electoral Act, shall be guilty of an offense and on conviction shall be liable to a maximum fine of five hundred thousand naira only.

A statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, said this was the outcome of a meeting held on February 23

The statement added that the official notification for the election will be published while parties shall conduct their primaries between February 26 and March 3, while the last day for submission of the list of nominated candidates is 6 pm, March 8.
