House Urges FG to Halt Take-off of 774,000 Special Works Programme

Written by on December 15, 2020

Commencement of the seven hundred and seventy-four thousand Special Works Programme today met another set-back at the House of Representatives.

This is as the House asked the Federal government to halt the programme’s take-off, scheduled for January 2021.

The House also asked the Ministry of Finance not to release the funds meant for the scheme until some issues affecting the integrity of the programme are sorted out.

This followed the adoption of a motion of Urgent Public Importance sponsored by Honorable Olajide Olatubonsun.

Contributing to the debate, Barrister Onofiok Luke said since the programme was initially due to begin this year and provisions were made in the 2020 budget, there was the need to suspend its implementation until provisions are made for it in the 2021 budget.
