Fresh Bayelsa governorship election ruled out by INEC

Written by on February 17, 2020

There will be no fresh governorship election in Bayelsa State as requested by the All Progressives Congress.

This was stated by INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.

Osaze-Uzzi explained that having declared PDP’s Douye Diri winner of the election as ordered by the Supreme Court, INEC had concluded its work on the Bayelsa State governorship poll.

APC’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, had in a letter addressed to the INEC Chairman,  Mahmood Yakubu, called for a fresh election in Bayelsa State.

Oshiomhole claimed that the swearing-in of the candidate of Diri as the state governor was unconstitutional, as he did not meet the mandatory constitutional requirements of approximately six local government areas
