Federal Government and Labour strike deal on minimum wage

After three days of horse-trading, the Federal Government and the Organized Labour have reached an agreement on the consequential adjustments of the implementation of the new wage regime of thirty thousand naira.

In the deal which was struck in the early hours of today, both parties agreed on giving workers between ten point five and twenty-three point two percent salary increases.

Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, who confirmed the breakthrough to journalists, also gave details as they affect the consequential adjustment for Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure, Consolidated Health Salary Structure and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure.

Others, according to the minister, also affect Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure Two, Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Salary Structure and Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure.

Witnesses to the agreement from the Government side were the Acting Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan and Director IPPIS, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Olusegun Olufehinti.

While on the side of the Organized Labour, Acting Chairman, Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, Simon Anchaver and its Secretary General, Alade Bashir, signed the deal, which was mediated by Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige and his state counterpart, Dr Festus Keyamo.
