Eighty-Six Repentant Boko Haram Child Fighters handed over to Borno State Government by the Nigerian Army.

Nigerian Army yesterday handed over eighty Six children used as child soldiers by the Boko Haram insurgents to the Borno state government.

A statement by Defence Headquarters’ spokesperson, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, said the children were handed over to the state government by the Operation Safe Corridor.

According to Onyema , the child fighters who voluntarily surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole are currently with the Borno state Rehabilitation Centre in Bulumkutu.

 Nwachukwu said the Military released the children aged between 10 and 19 to the state government to ensure that other minors and repentant Boko Haram fighters in the northeast region get all the support needed to embrace peace.

The Defense Spokesperson  said over  One thousand three hundred and seventy fighters  had surrendered to troops while  a fresh set of  five hundred repentant Boko Haram members will be transferred to Operation Safe Corridor for the De-radicalization, Rehabilitation and Re-integration Programme.
