EFCC presents new policy for whistle blowers

Written by on June 13, 2019

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has presented a new policy that will compel potential whistle-blowers to be under oath before filing petition.

Zonal head, Kano office, Garba Dugum, made this known in Kano at a training workshop on budget tracking and project monitoring for civil society organizations in northern Nigeria.

Dugum said under the new arrangement, a whistleblower must sign an undertaking before filing an allegation of corruption, to check unfolding abuse of the policy.

Dugum, who expressed disgust over series of petitions filed by those he called “supposed whistleblowers”, which were later found to be false declaration, noted that the EFCC aimed at checking needless allegations with the policy.

He said since false declaration could damage reputation, the Commission refrained from engaging in needless litigation which could be ignited by false petitions, adding that EFCC’s doors were open for intelligence.
