Commissioner of Works blames perennial flooding in Uyo on poor drainage network

Written by on November 18, 2019

The perennial flooding experienced in parts of Uyo has been attributed to poor drainage network in the city.

Commissioner of Works, Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, stated this when he appeared before the House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation and Finance today for his Ministry’s 2020 budget defence.

Inyang-Eyen regretted that there is no drainage in densely-populated areas like Udo Udoma Avenue, Nsikak Eduok and IBB, resulting to flooding during the rains.

On his part, the Commissioner for Housing, Raphael Bassey, told the committee that work has commenced on the “Low Density Housing Project”, with which the state government is planning to provide low-cost housing to the people.

Commissioner for Environment, Ekong Sampson, condemned the new trend of citing gas stations in residential areas, warning that such action threatens the lives of people living in such areas.
