President Muhammadu Buhari has dispatched a Special Envoy to convey to his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, his concerns about the escalating xenophobia attacks and also to find lasting solutions to the situation.

This comes after the President has instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, to summon the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria and get a brief on the situation.

During the meeting in Abuja today, the acting South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bobby Moroe, announced that more than seventy persons had been arrested in connection with the attacks on Nigerians and other foreign nationals.

The Special Envoy sent by President Buhari is expected to arrive in Pretoria on Thursday.
