Ben Ayade calls on strict regulations of Social Media

Written by on July 31, 2019

The number of Nigerians calling for strict regulations on the social media, is increasing by the day with the latest being the Governor of Cross River State, Professor Ben Ayade.

The governor made his position known today in Calabar, when he declared open this year’s National Broadcast Summit, with the theme “Broadcasting and Democracy: Emerging Security Imperatives”.

Such control, according to Governor Ayade, has become imperative against the backdrop of the problems the social media have caused the nation.

He frowned at those, who mischievously misrepresent issues on social media platforms to create tension in the country, insisting that while Press Freedom was necessary, freedom without responsibility amounts to abuse.

Governor Ayade therefore charged the country’s information policy makers to monitor, regulate and control the social media as a way of charting a new path of peace and progress for the country.

Among those attending the Summit is the Station Manager of Comfort 95.1 FM, Mr. Eddy Ekpenyong.
