Akwa Ibom State Government has reacted to the recent protest of a group of some Retired Primary School Teachers and their next of kins, calling for the payment of their entitlements.

The Head of State Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, in a statement made available to Comfort FM News, appreciated the retired Primary School Teachers and Next of kins’ for registering their grievances in a civil manner.

Elder Essien assured the aggrieved retirees that measures are being taken to ensure that the issues are settled soonest, as Governor Udom Emmanuel is not relenting in ensuring that all their outstanding financial issues are given prompt attention.

He, however, noted that it was unfortunate that the Udom-government inherited a backlog of unpaid entitlements of workers in the Local Government Service including, salaries, gratuities and pensions arrears, dating as far back as 1991.
