Akwa Ibom people urged to pay taxes for prompt 2020 budget implementation

Traditional leaders in Akwa Ibom have been tasked to enlighten residents in their domains to pay their taxes as part of their civic duties to enable the government provide them with better social amenities.

Commissioner for Finance, Nsikan Nkan, gave the charge at the 2020 Akwa Ibom State Budget Breakdown in Uyo, noting that taxes contribute mainly to resources in government coffers for execution of projects and policies,

Nkan reflected on the performance of the 2019 budget and projections for the 2020 budget provisions and commended the people for showing enthusiasm in participating fully in the budgetary processes by attending the event in large number.

Head of Budget Office, Otu Asuquo, commended the Chairman and Members of the House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation for speedy passage of the 2020 budget, which he said takes into consideration the transaction classifications into revenue, expenditure, assets and Liabilities.

The event was attended by the Chairman, Internal Revenue Service, Okon Okon; Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Uduak Ududo and the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Sea Port, Akan Okon
