2023:NGO Organises Training For Journalists in Uyo On Election Reportage

As the 2023 general elections in Nigeria draw near, journalists and other media professionals in Akwa Ibom State have been charged to promote accountability, transparency and social inclusion in their reportage before and during the polls.

This was the position made at a one-day training for journalists in Uyo, the state capital, tagged ‘Prioritizing Anti-Corruption and Accountability Issues During the Upcoming 2023 Elections”,  organised by Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), in partnership with COMPART Foundation,  a non-governmental human rights advocacy organisation.

Executive Director of  CISLAC, Auwal Musa Rasfanjani  who said seven  states of Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Borno, Imo, Kano, Kogi and Lagos were strategically selected for the training, harped on the need for journalists to play their watchdog role to ensure corruption is kicked out of the electoral processes.

On his part, the Executive Director of COMPART Foundation, Saviour Akpan, urged journalists to be armed with ethical practices and professionalism if their reportage during the 2023 elections must bring about positive change that will further deepen democracy.

Our Reporter Tony Esin  said the participants were taken on various salient topics such as, “Techniques for Investigative Reporting and How To Build Stories by Mr. Taiwo Adebayo of Premium Times and “How To Effectively Navigate Challenges Faced by Journalists In Nigeria by Doctor Bridget Onochie.
