Still on Educational matters, results for the First Series of the new diet of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination have been released by the West African Examination Council.
Announcing the results in Lagos, the Head of WAEC Nigeria Office, Isaac Adenipekun, said out of the eleven thousand, three hundred and seven private candidates that sat for the examination, only one thousand, nine hundred and thirty seven candidates, obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
Adenipekun also said the results of one thousand and twenty one candidates, representing nine point zero-three per cent of the total candidature, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.
According to him, the cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the council in due course for consideration.
Adenipekun described the conduct of the First Series of the additional diet for private candidates as a success, despite the failure of eighty three per cent of candidates.
